Part 12. Graceland, Graceland. Memphis, Tennessee!

We got up early and made the three-hour drive to Memphis and spent the afternoon at Graceland!

Wow-wow-wow! Graceland is a place to experience!

First, a tour of the mansion. Elvis bought Graceland in 1957 when he was 22 years old, for a little more than $100,000 (about $1.2 million today).

It was set up as it was in 1974, frozen in avocado green and harvest gold.

Elvis's parents' bedroom. Note the cute poodle wallpaper, which Gladys Presley helped design.

This room was sometimes used as a recording space. Thus, the green shag carpeting on the ceiling.

Lisa Maria played here!

Elvis loved horses and kept several for him and his family and friends to ride.

A charming thank you note for a donation. His $1000 donation would be worth $10,660 today.

He was obsessed with law enforcement and collected badges and patches

The Meditation Garden, where the Presley family members are laid to rest.

And then there was the huge museum across the street. Cars, boats, planes, and memorabilia from every aspect of Elvis's life.

We played around with the put-yourself-in-the-movie-poster machine

There was a big room dedicated to artists – so many artists – that got inspiration from Elvis.

Elvis was in so many movies! He even seduced a nun!

And the Vegas costume room! Wow! Overwhelmed by sparkle!

Gold-plated sink and gold-plated seatbelt buckles? Of course!

After Graceland, we found a true southern soul food place in a strip mall. Delicious!

Our next Boondockers Welcome was a large lawn near a pond. Lovely setting. We arrived just before sunset.

Next up: trouble brewing in the heartland
